Fun Online Games and More

It was one of the boring days at the office and I had no chance that I could leave the office since I was waiting there for an email feedback from one of the clients. There are times when you don’t want to work and you don’t even want to go searching for something new and interesting. Even I was kind of confused about how to pass time and starting to feel nervous. Suddenly I recalled reading about this web site called NewGrounds.com. Why not check it out now, I thought.

I hardly remember how I spent 90 minutes after I was logged into NewGrounds.com. This is a fun website for someone who has good time on hand. This site mainly is all about playing online games but there also are some more things to do like Blogs, Chat and Movies etc.

This first thing I noticed on this site was Games and Lots of Online Games! NewGrounds.com has hundreds of free online games which download really quick for you to play. I couldn’t help myself with all the games though since I had to force myself back to work after 90 minutes! I am sure no one would wish to and could try all the games in a single sitting.

You will see some familiar and great cartoons and characters roaming around the site, on every page you visit. These add more color to the site and make it very lively and familiar while you are exploring it for the first time. Even the advertisements on this site are very creative and colorful which gel very well with the site’s look and feel.

There is a lot of content, games submitted by the users which in most of the cases have developed the games themselves. You will also find the comments from the developer of the game on the top of every games page.

The Games section
The Games section has more than 10 categories with many more sub categories of all action packed games. These main categories include Action, Adventure, Casino, Defense, Driving, Fighting, Multiplayer, Puzzles and many more. I also learned about a new kind of game which seems to be interesting for younger lot called “Webcam Games”! And most of the games under this category were named like “dress-up yourself” which sounds too funny. Do not worry; there are no adult games but just fun! You can use your web cam or upload some picture and then start adding different hair, eye-balls etc on that picture. Of course there is a category for “Fantasy” games but it takes you to a different site.

Many of the games I tried were like puzzles, shooting and driving games (my favorites) and some action games. All these are tiny flash files which have good graphics and load fast in a popup which you can exit any time you wish to return to the main site. These popup open up on the same page; these are not regular irritating popup so you don’t need to change your ‘Block Popup Settings’.

The Flash Portal
On the flash portal you can submit your own flash to the site and also view others submitted files, review them and make friends by adding other flash artists to your favorite list. This basically is a User Driven area of the site which is a good meeting and sharing place especially for the Flash fans.

There also is an Audio Portal where you will find many tracks listed which are submitted by the NewGrounds.com users. As you may be aware of the fact that Flash is a multimedia authoring tool which could also embed sound files into flash movies and give the users more interactive experience.

The Movies
The Movies section of the site has Flash movies only. These are also lined up in various categories. These are not what you thought kind of long animation motion pictures but just tiny flash animation with some stories, obviously created and uploaded by the NewGrounds.com members. These are fun to watch.

The Downloads
This is a section I like on most of the sites I visit. NewGrounds.com is no exception! It has good stuff to download for every one. The flash developers can find things they can use in their software like flash preloaders and other ‘raw material’ like NewGround logo and style guides. For us there are Wallpapers, iPod movies and AIM icons, of course for free J.

There are more sections like Collection, series where you will find similar kind of Fun Flash Stuff submitted mostly by the users to share with other members. NewGround.com also has a Forum for the members to shout their voices and share opinions like any other forum. The Store of the site has funny and funky T-shirts, toys and other collectibles for sale.

NewGrounds.com is a site fully loaded with great Flash (mostly) content. The site also has some basic networking features like email, chat, blog etc. The look and feel of the site is also suitable for the content it has. I am sure the target audience of this site must be finding it very exciting. Even any other internet user would notice the very different, dark theme used with extremely colorful and bright graphics.

All in all a great site to hang out and have some fun if you are working long hours and need a break from the boring, mechanical work you do.
